STATEMAP— 1:24,000-scale geologic maps were produced with U.S. Geological Survey funds matched by the ISGS. They typically include only bedrock and surficial geology themes, and were produced within a one-year timeframe. STATEMAP products are available only as downloadable graphics through this Web site, and all will eventually be upgraded to the Illinois Preliminary Geologic Map (IPGM) or the Illinois Geologic Quadrangle (IGQ) Series. They comply with ISGS cartographic standards at the time of public release, but have not been formally reviewed. For more details about the program, refer to the USGS STATEMAP Home Page

Illinois Preliminary Geologic Quadrangle Maps— Many Illinois Preliminary Geologic Quadrangle geologic maps were originally 1:24,000-scale STATEMAP products, but the series may include maps of other scales and funding sources. In addition to bedrock and surficial geology, this series may include a variety of geologic themes such as bedrock topography, drift thickness, and others. Some IPGMs will be upgraded to the Illinois Geologic Quadrangle (IGQ) series. IPGM maps are available for sale as hardcopy and as free downloadable graphics through this website. They receive a brief internal scientific review and editing, and comply with ISGS cartographic standards at the time of public release.

Illinois Geologic Quadrangle Series — Illinois Geologic Quadrangle maps were originally produced as STATEMAP or Illinois Preliminary Geologic Map products, or were derived from other mapping activity. In addition to bedrock and surficial geology, this series may include a variety of geologic themes such as bedrock topography, drift thickness, and others. IGQ maps are available for sale as hardcopy and as free downloadable graphics through this website. They are extensively reviewed internally and externally, and comply with ISGS cartographic standards at the time of public release.

Illinois County Geologic Maps Series — The Illinois County Geologic Map (ICGM) series was initiated in 2007. This series may include a variety of geologic themes, such as bedrock geology, surficial geology, geologic cross sections, three-dimensional models, major Quaternary aquifers, aquifer sensitivity to contamination, and others. ICGM series maps are available for sale as hard copy and as free downloadable graphics through this Web site. The maps in this series are extensively reviewed internally and externally and comply with ISGS cartographic standards at the time of public release.
